Every so often we feel obliged to take a moment and sing praises for a single product or fashion item that has profoundly changed our daily routine: today, that fabulous, life-altering product is the initmitable Rosemary Mint shampoo by Aveda without which, we would surely perish in this god-awful weather.
It’s true, one could opt for expensive tanning bed sessions or tan-in-a-can products to beat that ghostly winter pallor, but you don’t have to risk looking like Snooki of the Jersey Shore (not that she isn’t awesome–she is) to look healthy this season.
Obviously, salon and spa treatments, even if they’re rare, can quickly become insanely expensive ( you’d be shocked at how much a 20% tip on a facial in New York City can cost), which is why we’re big fans of tried-and-true products that offer spa results at home. One such favorite is the Nars Mud Mask, available from Saks Fifth Avenue for $45.
Our standby nail colors may be categorized anywhere between “predictable” and “totally dull.” The extensive collection of red lacquers in our medicine cabinet –with their subtle tonal differences and metallic disparities detectable only to the trained eye–has gotten somewhat out of control, and is intruding upon a second shelf (normally devoted to half-empty moisturizer bottles). The time has finally come to step out of our crimson color palette and immerse our fingertips in a new, perhaps slightly unexpected varnish.
As the weather changes, so must our daily showering ritual to account for the depleting moisture levels in our skin. Nothing perks up our winter beauty routine like a good ol’ fashioned scrub down–and gross, flaky winter dryness is nothing in the face of a good smoothing exfoliant.
I don’t love the idea of wearing a lot of makeup in the summer time; more sun bake calls for less cake. But I do understand wanting to look your best no matter what time of year. I change up my face routine for each season to best cater to my skin’s needs given the climate.
